R’ Moshe and Saara come to JLIC at Johns Hopkins University from Providence, RI where they have each spent over a decade on campus at Brown University.
R’ Moshe grew up in New York and Montreal prior to attending the New England Rabbinical College in Providence, RI where he earned a degree in Rabbinics. He spent two years in Jerusalem where he learned under Rabbi Moshe Wolpin and subsequently taught at a yeshiva for American teens-at-risk before returning to Providence. R’ Moshe is a BBQ enthusiast, coffee addict, and Pachad Yitzchak stan. In 2014, Forward Magazine recognized R’ Moshe as one of “America’s Most Inspiring Rabbis”.

The JLIC couple has been the scaffolding of the entire orthodox and religious Jewish community at Hopkins for my entire time here.
JLIC allows me to have religious life on campus. It’s how I get to have an eruv, make sure the food that’s made for me on Shabbos is kosher, and it’s a mode of gathering. JLIC also makes it so that we have an affirmation of the presence of religious life so that other religious students are willing to come here. Students from other colleges in Baltimore like Loyola also come to us, which is awesome.
Rabbi Moshe and Sara really exhibit what it means to live a life centered around Judaism and share that love and passion with all of us.
The JLIC is a truly warm and welcoming place. Rabbi Moshe and Sara make their programming accessible to everyone and ensure that the whole community knows about their events, is invited, and feels welcome. They invite space for curiosity which has been very helpful for my Jewish journey in college.
Rabbi Moshe and Sara are always there to answer any questions we may have, whether theoretical or practical. I know I can always go to them for any of my Jewish needs.
I love all of the learning opportunities we have from torah bbq lunches to weekly beit midrashes to our guest speakers. I am so excited for our torah bbqs next semester.
Hopkins JLIC plays a critical role in our campus community and promotes Jewish growth throughout the entire Hopkins Jewish community. Every year that I have been at Hopkins, I have seen several students who have become much more connected to their Jewish heritage over their time here. The support provided by JLIC has been completely essential to the abundant Jewish growth that occurs at Hopkins.
JLIC provides educational opportunities, essential infrastructure, a beautiful Shabbat environment and more. I personally would not be the same person I am today, would not have undergone the same growth, and not have the same connection with Hashem if not for the support JLIC has provides over my time here.
The work of JLIC at Johns Hopkins is a model for how to support students in making their time at secular a college a time of profound religious growth, and not just for orthodox students, but for all Jewish students.
The Moskowitzs play a very important role in my college experience. As a member of the orthodox community I have developed a good relationship with the Moskowitz family. They are always there to answer any questions, talk through things, and just have interesting conversation. They are so kind and welcoming, inviting us into their home for Seudat Shlishit every week, and I don't know how I would make it through college without them around.
